Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on January. 19. 1946 into a very low-income family, with twelve kids at one point, realized that she could escape suffering through her creative mind. Before she could write and read, she was making up her own songs. Her first guitar was given by her mother when she was eight. She began singing in the Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. She recorded her first album within the same calendar year Gold Band Records, a tiny independent label. She made a name for herself locally while still at high school, but dreamed of a bigger stage. After graduating high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated show on TV in the late '60s, was looking for a female singer on his show. Parton signed with RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She was hired in the year 1967. Parton quit the Wagoner's band in 1974, when her solo hits like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene outsold the collaborations. Parton composed I Will Always love You in honor of Wagoner after their breakup. It made it to No. First time, in 1974.
